I remember it like it was yesterday.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I'm about 8 1/2 years old, coming off of a bad flu. It's Friday, meaning it's family movie night. Daddy got home from work kind of early that night, which was cool, considering he'd been training new clients all week. My mom slices the pizza and my little sister and I are instructed to bring blankets from our bedrooms downstairs to the family TV. We oblige, slightly confused. I can't help but notice that the projector that my dad was using for work is now sitting on our brown fold-out card table, hooked up to various cables and my dad's tiny laptop. We all sit on the basement floor, facing a plain white wall that forms the Eastern border of my house. My dad turns the lights off, and 30 blue letters form across the screen: "A long time ago in galaxy far, far, away...."
And just like that I was brought into a galaxy that thrived on the Force, that was under an evil Empire and protected by fearless Jedi. I admired Princess Leia for her strength, stubbornness, and grace, I cheered when Luke used the Force for the first time, I laughed with Han and Chewie. I spent two+ hours dreaming of what could be because I saw other people living their dreams out in front of me. You can say that the hero tale has been told over and over and there's no doubt about it - it has! But each one hits us at different points in our lives that shape us differently. Star Wars taught 8 year old me that there is more to life than just you and that the actions of a single person in anger or fear or hatred can have disastrous consequences. It taught me to trust my gut but to trust in and fight for others around you, and it told me that wisdom can come from the smallest of forms.
I'd love to get this conversation started - what has #StarWars taught you?
#StarWarsTaughtMe ...?

#StarWarsTaughtMe that you can never full eliminate darkness, or light. Anyone is capable of redemption. And if Darth Vader can become good, then anyone can.
ReplyDeleteIt's OK to be a stuck up, half witted, scruffy looking, nerf herder 😆
ReplyDelete#StarWarsTaughtMe that no one person is truly evil, or truly good. You can find good and evil in everybody.
ReplyDelete#StarWarsTaughtMe that you don't have to be big and strong to be a hero. It taught me that anyone can have a second chance and that no one is really fully set in their ways.
ReplyDeleteI watched the new film yesterday! It was AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteOh where do I start?? So much!! I will just say this though....
ReplyDelete#StarWarsTaughtMe to believe in myself. To realize there is a whole world out there itching for me to explore, and that even I, who has been stuck "on a farm" my whole life, can actually go and see it and possibly make a change! It also taught me you have to think carefully, not act fully on emotion and to consider other peoples' points of view, because what may seem to be good in your eyes may be completely opposite to someone else. You have to think carefully not acting on pure emotion and consider their point of view and by doing so, hopefully resolving the problem and avoiding the huge disaster all together. Acting on emotion without thinking anything through can simply get you into a disaster. And really, Star Wars taught me to simply hate less or not at all. Hate really does "lead to the dark side."
Kayla Marie Well aren't you half witted girl...
ReplyDeleteStar Wars has taught us all something.

ReplyDeleteTo always look for and see the good in someone.
Somewhere inside it's there. You might have to look deeper in some, but that doesn't mean it's nit there. It's just not as obvious.
#StarWarsTaughtMe that even if you are a girl, you can fight as well as a boy.
ReplyDelete#StarWarsTaughtMe that people can change for the better, and family doesn't just mean your relatives.
ReplyDeleteStar Wars taught me that there is good In all and the strangest looking creatures can have the biggest hearts.
ReplyDelete#StarWarsTaughtMe that size matters not.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though,
I now know that my world is not a bubble. Everything I do has consequences for someone else; not just me. We're all interconnected in strange ways.
Even the darkest of evils can turn good, and even the lightest of goods can turn evil. Our life is a delicate balance, and only our decisions determine which side we fall on.

ReplyDeleteThat anyone can be a hero, everyone has strengths, and anyone can be redeemed. It taught me that good always wins in the end and that you should never lose hope, especially in your family members.
There's good in everyone.
ReplyDeleteThe cookie is a lie!
Family is everything <3
