Kichu L yes it's the first book in the mortal instruments But if you haven't watched the movie, don't do it before reading the book!!! The last third of the movie was just.. just... (wail uncontrollably
Nila Sekar But the spirit of the story is there. They were the same Gus and Hazel, from the book, from the way they acted, to their motivation. Also in both forms of media the idea of cancer is not romanticized, at all. Even John Green helped in the making. You know the 4 pages of imperial affliction we do see? They were written for the movie, by john himself. I know they changed things here and there, like what Gus said at the egg throwing scene. But that is not what’s the most important thing. You should be glad you got a scene like that, at all. Most directors would see it as excess fat and trim it off. There was a lot of time and effort, put into that movie, to make it have the same tone and characters and a lot of other things. There were even a looking for Alaska ref and nerd fighter(john and Hank green fans) references, if you look hard enough. I know you have your own opinion and I guess I respect that. But what I’m saying is I don’t see your point.
Divergent should be added to good adaptations. Everyone says they left out so much, but if you don't want a 10-hour-long movie, you've got to chop out a lot! The way they connected the scenes they left was superb, and the plot flowed well. They also made a lot of direct book-to-movie quotations, which I love.
I would say put Ender's Game up there, but I honestly cannot decide which to put it under. I know I have strong feelings about it, but I can't decide which way... I mean, the first half was pretty good, and the second had its moments, but the last half just kinda threw the book out the window... Anybody else got opinions on that one? And Lord of the Rings deserves a place among the good. We do not speak of those abominations they call "The Hobbit."
viv chan .......I sort of got that I've always wanted a good movie. But Isaac was different, Gus was supposed to have straight hair, they changed the 'he's a self-aggravandizing bastard' they missed so many scenes. I don't mind the movie. What I hate is when people say "OMG the movie was just as good as the book! Loved it!" But yeah.
I think the Hobbit should be up there... Considering the amount of information that is actually in the book, they chose to make it three movies instead of cutting a bunch and making it one movie... You really can't leave out information from the book in the movie otherwise you really won't understand it...
But they made The Hobbit way too long. Honestly, I could have been fine with a four or five hour total adaption. But no, they had to make the movie to a 300 page children's-to-young adult book just as long as those of a 1000+ three part, six book series. There isn't enough material for it. So they made them (admittedly) really cool fight scenes bound semi-loosly by a plot which revolves around messing with the lore. And they weren't exceptionally well done. Sorry for the rant guys, but the purist inside me demands to be heard.
Nathan Hone I agree with everything you are saying except the hobbit is not a children's book, it may be label as one but I certainly don't think it is.
Oh my god YAS! The Eragon movie made me wanna cry because of its suckishness and so did the Percy Jackson ones. The Hunger Games movie was pretty good but they left out Madge....overall though, the Hunger Games was almost as good as the book. I my opinion the book is always better than the movie.
Hey y'all! Like I said in my last post, I would still love to keep in contact with anyone who's willing through my personal accounts on other platforms. So, as promised, here are some of my social media links. (The first few are more active than the rest, but I do use all of them pretty consistently, even if I don't post that often.) Please feel free to follow me, and I'll follow you back if you don't look suspicious. :) (You can also +1 or comment your profile name in this post so I know who you are.) [removed] Anyway, to follow up on my previous post... I've been scrolling through tons of old G+ posts for the past few days and thinking a lot about this page, and I've come to this conclusion: I don't think I (or any of the other managers) will be actively trying to continue this page on another social media platform. I've looked around at options like MeWe, which I've been hearing a lot about, and it seems like a great site, but I don't thin...
I just got back from the library and I'm so excited to readddddddd I got ten books! I'll list them here. I've only seen five of them before today (first five in the list), but the other ones looked really interesting so I got them. :) The Young Elites by Marie Lu Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater Geography Club by Brent Hartinger Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins Frozen by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston Mistwood by Leah Cypess Relic by Heather Terrell Peaches by Jodi Lynn Anderson My mom kept telling me that I wouldn't be able to finish them in time and I was like are you sure about that? Because I'm probably going to finish all of them this week... :P ~Jamie the Magical Marauding Mockingjay
The PJ movies made my heart bleed.....
ReplyDeleteAnother bad adaptation was City of Bones (stabbed in heart)
finally something that recognizes what a pile of poo the eragon movie was
ReplyDeleteLizz Roth no… no… they really weren't.
ReplyDeleteLizz Roth Yeah... they really weren't. Compared to the books they suck.
ReplyDeleteKichu L yes it's the first book in the mortal instruments
ReplyDeleteBut if you haven't watched the movie, don't do it before reading the book!!!
The last third of the movie was just.. just... (wail uncontrollably
Fight Club - great book to movie adaptation!
ReplyDeleteI watched the movie in class before I read PJO. After I read it, I wondered why it had the same name.
ReplyDeletetotally Dude!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEragon and Percy Jackson are great series but the movies had to ruin them
ReplyDeleteThey did good jobs on Narnia and Lord of the Rings
ReplyDeleteLizz Roth say what?
ReplyDeleteAdd maze runner in bad. I actually didn't like the movie as much as I would've liked. They left out how they got out of the friggin maze!!!
ReplyDeleteBad doesn't even begin to describe it.
ReplyDeleteMaze Runner was great! I loved it!
ReplyDeleteeragon was unfortunately the worst movie adaptation I have ever seen
ReplyDeleteTFIOS was also not good.
ReplyDeleteIt's very very different from the book and they changed many key sentences!
Madison Roberts of course. The Percy Jackson movie is literally just the basic idea and they made their own story.
ReplyDeleteThose dam mortals.
Omg yes
ReplyDeleteHahahaha
ReplyDeleteI second Drew Fisher. The book was great but what was with that damn unicorn.... And the write your own ending thing was really stupid....
ReplyDeletethose bad adaptations make me want to read the books
ReplyDeletetoo bad they don't sell them here :(
Mortal instruments should be on the bad side
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Creatures was terrible. I loved to book, but the movie was so confusing and the casting was all wrong.
ReplyDeleteLizz Roth Maybe you enjoyed them, but they were horrible adaptations, of great books.
ReplyDeleteNila Sekar But the spirit of the story is there. They were the same Gus and Hazel, from the book, from the way they acted, to their motivation.

Marie Irwin yes! Thank you, finally someone agrees! The movie= Terrible!! the book was great tho.

Nathan Hone IDK, I thought the Hobbit movies were pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI would say the first Percy Jackson movie was good, but the second sucked.
ReplyDeleteThe Percy Jackson movies are HORRIBLE but the books are the most WONDERFUL and AMAZING THING IN THE WORLD.
ReplyDeleteCaleb Millette yeah even thought both movies were nothing like the books at least the first movie was kind of okay
ReplyDeleteJerrey Anne Nelson The one thing you do NOT want to say to Percy Jackson fandom: I LOVED THE MOVIES! You would get shot. By satyrs and demigods.
ReplyDeleteviv chan .......I sort of got that
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a good movie.
But Isaac was different, Gus was supposed to have straight hair, they changed the 'he's a self-aggravandizing bastard' they missed so many scenes.

ReplyDeleteNathan Hone Preach it brother.
ReplyDeleteHow can you put Percy Jackson in Bad book
ReplyDeleteSameeksha Shetty They're not saying the books were bad. They're saying that the movies were bad according to the books.
ReplyDeleteOh my god YAS! The Eragon movie made me wanna cry because of its suckishness and so did the Percy Jackson ones. The Hunger Games movie was pretty good but they left out Madge....overall though, the Hunger Games was almost as good as the book. I my opinion the book is always better than the movie.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Ellis I know, I'm part of it. I've seen it happen to someone else.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the top three are good movie adaptions either.
